Net Curtains?
Can Net Curtains reduce fatalities?
Dear Editor
Regarding the Decline in birds in the gardens; most of the information we get on TV and radio seem to be to-do with the way we look after the gardens. Thousands of birds die each day from them flying into windows and mostly patio doors. I’m a window cleaner and see many dead birds that have hit the windows. One window cleaner said that a pigeon followed by a bird of pray were both dead when they hit the windows at the same time. One man in New York, over one week picked up 2000 dead birds that had hit the sky scrapers that are covered in big windows.
As a window cleaner I never see dead birds where people have nets up at the windows. Here is a picture of a yet again dead bird that I found on my window cleaning round last week; there were no nets in the windows again. I know when a bird has gone into a window by the wing marks that are on the window. I see those marks on most homes that have no nets curtains. The birds that fly away might have brain or neck damage, which most likely will lead to death.
