An annual rural education day for primary school pupils across the Scottish Borders

Every year, SBS attends the Border Union Agricultural Society's Schools Countryside Day. With our specially produced children’s literature, swift nest box cameras and information boards, children interact with and learn about songbirds and the countryside, and how they can look after it.

Encouraging children to interact with nature is important for their physical, mental and emotional development. It goes hand in hand with work to tackle childhood inactivity and obesity, and ensuring every child has the best start in life.

Our annual attendance means successive years of children are benefiting from this environmental education. We hope to inspire future conservationists, ornithologists, and wildlife enthusiasts, instil an ethos of environmental protection, and improve the quality of life of rural communities.
