An SBS member organised a Dawn Chorus walk to celebrate International Dawn Chorus Day on Sunday 5th May this year.

Our member, Virginia Webb wanted to not just enjoy the dawn chorus for herself, but to raise funds for SBS at the same time.

With the generous support from friends and family, Virginia raised the fantastic amount of £190!

A dawn chorus walk is the perfect opportunity for bird lovers to gather at dawn to listen to the sounds of birds as they sing to greet the rising sun.

The first Dawn Chorus Day was organised by environmentalist and broadcaster Chris Baines in the 1980s when he held his birthday party at 4am so that all of his guests could listen to the dawn chorus together!

What began as a small annual event in Birmingham has now spread right across the UK and is even celebrated in parts of Antarctica and the Caribbean.
