Emma began her career in ecology and nature conservation after completing a degree in Biological Sciences, later earning a master’s in Conservation from University College London.
Her academic journey led her to research the breeding success of lapwings on an Irish nature reserve, where she collaborated with BirdWatch Ireland and the National Parks and Wildlife Service to assess and enhance conservation practices, focusing on habitat suitability and predation pressure. Following her research, Emma spent several years managing a leading academic journal in the conservation field, gaining valuable insight into the scientific publishing process and the communication of impactful research. Now, she’s turning her focus to the conservation of the UK’s songbirds, bringing both scientific rigour and a passion for wildlife to her role at SongBird Survival. Based in Bristol, Emma enjoys exploring the countryside - from the Mendips to Dartmoor - with her partner and their golden retriever. She’s also a keen gardener, enjoys crafting, and stays active through sports and hiking.
